About us

The Playground Collective is the result of over 10 years of work with donors, networks, NGOs and movements, in different parts of the world, with organisations of different shapes and sizes working in the geographical areas of the global majority (typically termed the ‘Global South’) and the global minority (typically termed the ‘Global North’). This work allowed us to engage with multiple perspectives in and around the sector and understand the challenges that stand in the way of the social and environmental justice that these organisations and activists are pursuing.

From this vantage point, we have come to realise that we have the responsibility to make contributions to the sector beyond Terms of Reference or our regular project by project rhythm. To make this possible, we created a space in which we can reflect on trends we see in the sector, write papers to put down lessons and analyses, develop or detail together tools that many organisations need and tend to ask us for, and bring together different actors to collectively deconstruct and reconstruct alternative approaches together.
